History Part II In 1963Our first stallion was an Arabian bred by Mrs Napier of Palmerston North. Foaled in 1963, Sirrocco was never shown and he was used by us to breed children's ponies. He was very successful sire, his stock winning endurance, showjumping, showing classes, eventing in fact all facets of horse activity. He was bred to a good number of hack and hunter mares as well as a few purebred Arab mares. To this day his grandchildren continue to be prominent in the NZ horse and pony world. By this time the breeding bug was chronic and whilst on a visit to "Punga Park" we saw Punga Fanfare on his mother. By Gredington Rhiel, he arrived at Glendale later that same year 1968 and so began a new era. |
In 1975Welshies arrive at GlendalePurebred mares were very hard to come by and it was not until 1975 when the Section A filly, Punga Katrinka arrived as a two-year-old, that we began breeding purebred Welsh ponies. Katy as she was affectionately known was sent to Rowfant Santiago in 1979 and her foal Glendale Sierra was a most successful mare. She was purchased by Mr Kevin Townsend who subsequently bred her to Collena Pledge(pictured below).
